Top Secret: American Chess Table- Getting Leggy

 In Furniture, Tables

A table needs legs!  These beautiful legs were created by Don Russell.  He used an XYZ machine to make the legs out of rock maple.  The wood is very hard and very dense and machined very well.  The legs have been hanging out at Don’s shop for a while, looking for a project to be incorporated into.  I am honored that Don allowed me to use the legs for this very special project.  To donate such a beautiful piece of work to a fellow woodworker that has no experience with the mortise and tenoning process was a great leap of faith!

The marked legs placed in the mortising machine:

table leg ready to be mortised

table leg ready to be mortised

The leg has been mortised on one side:

table leg mortised

table leg mortised

All four legs mortised on both sides:

all table legs mortised

all table legs mortised

Next up, we need to dry fit all the parts together, in order to make sure I have not screwed up any measurements or planning!
